{"id":2352,"date":"2019-11-01T09:18:18","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T20:18:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/o.nash.org.nz\/?p=2352"},"modified":"2019-11-06T08:45:26","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T19:45:26","slug":"ngati-awa-te-toki-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/o.nash.org.nz\/?p=2352","title":{"rendered":"Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><strong>\u201cKo Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki te tangatanga i te r\u0101, te ngohengohe i te w\u0101.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><i>\u201cNg\u0101ti Awa the adze whose bindings cannot be loosed by the sun nor softened by the rain.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Te Tohu o Te Ora Ng\u0101ti Awa in conjunction with Community Action on Youth and Drugs (CAYAD) were proud sponsors of Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki festival launched in 2009 to encourage more Ng\u0101ti Awa descendants to \u2018hoki mai ki te kainga\u2019 and empower our Ng\u0101ti Awa wh\u0101nau.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki 2019 was held from 25-27 October 2019.\u00a0 The powhiri was held at Te Manuka Tutahi.\u00a0 The spectacular weather throughout the discourse of the weekend set the perfect wairua for the success of the Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki Kapa Haka Festival 2019. The connectedness through whakawhanaungatanga with both the performers and supporting wh\u0101nau in the crowd was embraced throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">This year there were 6 tamariki roopu in the whakataetae section, 12 roopu in the whakangahau section and 12 roopu in the pakeke whakataetae section.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u00a0The Tamariki Whakataetae section marvelled whanau and spectators with spectacular choreography and waiata.\u00a0 All groups caught the hearts of everyone present.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><strong>The top 3 placed roopu for the Tamariki Whakataetae section were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">1st: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101ti Rarawhati<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">2nd: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101 Maihi<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">3rd: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101ti Hikakino\/Ng\u0101i Te Rangihouhiri II<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The pakeke roopu were all magnificent with the level of choreography, waiata sung and actions displayed being of a very professional level. \u00a0Each roopu held their own mana portrayed within their own controlled ihi and wehi. \u00a0The whaikorero were sharp and direct placing emphasis on the kaupapa at hand and acknowledging how proud they were as descendants of Ng\u0101ti Awa. \u00a0Some korero ruffled a few feathers in the eyes of the judges. \u00a0In the end, a powerful display from all the pakeke roopu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><strong>The top 3 placed roopu were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">\u00a01st: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101 Maihi<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">2nd: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101ti Hamua<\/li>\n<li class=\"xmsonormal\">3rd: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ng\u0101i Taiwhakaea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">More on Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki can be found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tetokifestival.com\/\">http:\/\/www.tetokifestival.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cKo Ng\u0101ti Awa Te Toki te tangatanga i te r\u0101, te ngohengohe i te w\u0101.\u201d \u201cNg\u0101ti Awa the adze whose bindings cannot be loosed by the sun nor softened by [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":2353,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"rs_blank_template":"","rs_page_bg_color":"","slide_template_v7":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2352","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
